The Club
The Club provides as many
aviation related activities as possible and conducts flight training leading
to the issue of a National Private Pilots Licence (NPPL), a JAR private pilot
licence (PPL) as well as offering aircraft for hire to qualified pilots. More advanced training for
the IMC and night ratings is also available. For those who fly regularly as a
passenger and who wish to become more involved the Club offers a 10 hour
course of flying lessons to teach the principles of controlling an aircraft in
an emergency - or just to give the pilot a helping hand on a long flight. There are two categories of
membership; pilots and student pilots who fly the Club aircraft as Flying
Members and Social Members. The emphasis is on the "Club" rather
than the "school" atmosphere and any form of aviation, or aviation
related activity, is encouraged. The Club is open seven days a
week and one or more of the directors is likely to be present every working
day. Everyone is welcome to call
in and discuss their flying requirements. |

THE PRIVATE
PILOTS LICENCE To obtain a PPL licence it is a legal requirement
that you undertake a minimum of 45 hours of training, 10 of which must be
solo. The full requirements for the PPL are explained elsewhere in this
website. Following the training there is a Skills Test with
an examiner lasting about one and a half to two hours. To attain the standard
required for the test some students take a little more than the minimum
required hours. Current prices are readily available from the Club
and on this website. One of the directors will be pleased to give you a
realistic idea of the overall cost at any time. Having obtained a licence the cost of flying is considerably reduced. The private hire rate for the aircraft does not, of course, include an instructor fee and the cost may be shared with passengers. This can make the cost of, for example, a day trip to Le Touquet a reasonable expense. |
