The Club

LAC is a Civil Aviation Authority registered training facility. It was established in February 2001 by three enthusiastic private pilots.

The Club provides as many aviation related activities as possible and conducts flight training leading to the issue of a National Private Pilots Licence (NPPL), a JAR private pilot licence (PPL) as well as offering aircraft for hire to qualified pilots.

More advanced training for the IMC and night ratings is also available. For those who fly regularly as a passenger and who wish to become more involved the Club offers a 10 hour course of flying lessons to teach the principles of controlling an aircraft in an emergency - or just to give the pilot a helping hand on a long flight.

There are two categories of membership; pilots and student pilots who fly the Club aircraft as Flying Members and Social Members. The emphasis is on the "Club" rather than the "school" atmosphere and any form of aviation, or aviation related activity, is encouraged.

The Club is open seven days a week and one or more of the directors is likely to be present every working day.

Everyone is welcome to call in and discuss their flying requirements.

Training & Aircraft

The training is conducted from Lydd Airport by our own team of instructors in Cessna 152, 172 and Piper Warrior aircraft.

Some of the more advanced training may take place at Calais or Le Touquet airports.

The team is well qualified to conduct all the training referred to on this website and meet the high standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority.

They are also qualified to conduct and mark the written examinations required for the Private Pilots Licence.

THE AIRPORT
Situated on the South East corner of England we enjoy better than average weather. we have the benefit of a l,500m tarmac runway, 21/03, with approach lighting and PAPI. NDB (LYX) is on the field, the VOR/DME (LYD) nearby.

There is an ILS for runway 21.

Fuel, Avgas and Avtur, is available during operating hours; maintenance facilities are available during operating hours on weekdays.

Within the terminal building is the Biggles restaurant and bar where visitors may obtain a wide variety of snacks and meals which can be enjoyed whilst watching the aircraft movements on the ramp through the panoramic windows.

THE PRIVATE PILOTS LICENCE

To obtain a PPL licence it is a legal requirement that you undertake a minimum of 45 hours of training, 10 of which must be solo. The full requirements for the PPL are explained elsewhere in this website.

Following the training there is a Skills Test with an examiner lasting about one and a half to two hours. To attain the standard required for the test some students take a little more than the minimum required hours.

Current prices are readily available from the Club and on this website. One of the directors will be pleased to give you a realistic idea of the overall cost at any time.

Having obtained a licence the cost of flying is considerably reduced. The private hire rate for the aircraft does not, of course, include an instructor fee and the cost may be shared with passengers. This can make the cost of, for example, a day trip to Le Touquet a reasonable expense.
