REPORT BY THE CREW/PILOTS
G-BIBW was our Aircraft for the weekend, Departing Lydd at 09:15 on Saturday 27th April for Valenciennes via Calais and Lille.
After breakfast at Calais we watched the skydivers returning to earth landing at the air field. Requesting engine start and clearance we departed Calais and made our way on to our south easterly heading inbound to Lille.
Weather was far from perfect and we worked as a crew aboard the aircraft keeping watch for other aircraft etc. Now as this was my leg of the journey I was cautious about keeping a goodlisten for ATC as the French speak fast and even in English it is hard to understand word for word.
We went around twice at Lille on final due to a Ryanair Boeing 737 and then an Air France A320 also on final . We left Lille for Valenciennes and the weather was slightly improving.
The following day we fly direct from Valenciennes to Le Touquet where the weather was as good as can be from a pilots point of view, so enjoying a coffee and cake in the sunshine at Le Touquet was to be had before departing and crossing the Channel for the home soil of Lydd.
All in all for a beginners fly out there were plenty of small challenges but working as a crew we overcame these and discussed over a cup of tea in the debrief. Richard Gilbert
